JOHN BRANDT— PRESIDENT, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER & CO-FOUNDER

John Brandt is an entrepreneur who cut his business teeth in public accounting, working eight years for Peat Marwick and achieving the rank of "Tax Manager" when he left for the medical field. As senior vice president for a major medical practice company for 12 years, John oversaw a $200 million budget. With a penchant for bringing focus and discipline to start-ups, John has been involved in several new companies in such fields as wind power, solar energy and bio-clinical inventions. He co-founded EPo Energy, an Iowa domiciled solar company.

John was introduced to the volumetric concrete mixer industry as an executive for two volumetric manufacturing companies. Understanding how to improve on this concept, John co-founded of Omega Concrete Mixers in 2012. John has been instrumental in the success and operations of Omega. He developed the international dealer network serving as the brand and technology ambassador as the company sought to expand in South America, Africa, India, Canada and Europe.

 

 

 

 

JAMIE BUELT—CHAIR, BOARD OF MEMBERS

Jamie Buelt brings more than 30 years of media, public relations and corporate communications experience to the team. After working eight years as a banking and finance reporter (breaking multiple stories on the savings and loan crisis in Kansas City and covering the fall of the Berlin Wall), she was recruited by the Federal Home Loan Bank to head up its public information function. Within 18 months, she founded her own firm, focused on financial institutions, construction and real estate.

As a veteran communications counsel, Jamie applies her understanding of business and finance to the changing media landscape in order to meet the communications objectives of clients, ranging from successful entrepreneurs to Fortune 500 corporations. She has worked with local, regional and national media on coverage of a wide range of topics including finance, insurance, class action lawsuits, gaming, computer operating systems, alternative energy, egg production, construction and architecture, disaster recovery, immigration, environmental concerns and health care.

Jamie graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business and journalism. She has completed several graduate hours and conducted research into the re-privatization of Polish agriculture.

She is involved with several nonprofit organizations, currently sitting on the boards of Oakridge Neighborhood Services (chair of the marketing committee) and the Iowa Rush Soccer Club (secretary). She previously served as a board member on the National Patient Advocate Foundation and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Iowa Chapter.

 

BETH ANN MAHAFFEY—VICE CHAIR, BOARD OF MEMBERS

Beth Mahaffey is a proven leader and experienced director with expertise in business analytics, business development, accounting and finance. An owner of several small businesses during her career, Beth has utilized her talent for conceptualizing and facilitating change to improve both processes and profits. This experience includes manufacturing, real estate, retail, governmental and non-profit entities. Beth’s background includes tax, audit and finance accounting for the Des Moines’ CPA firms of Ernst & Young (EY) and Schmid, Macklin and Associates, P.C. Beth also served as CFO/Controller for Hicklin Engineering Company for several years and was a Director for the State of Iowa’s affordable housing agency.

Beth graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree of business administration in accounting. In 2017, Beth also completed intensive training at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business Executive Leadership School.

 

 

 

 

SCOTT IVERS—SECRETARY AND TREASURER, BOARD OF MEMBERS

Scott Ivers is an entrepreneurial CFO with wide ranging experience and knowledge in a variety of industries including real estate, manufacturing, technology, distribution and gaming. Since 2006, Scott has served as the Chief Financial Officer for Kirke, LLC (formerly Kirke Financial Services), a complex and diverse organization that operates similarly to a private equity firm. In addition to conventional CFO duties, Scott leads Kirke, LLC’s investment efforts, evaluating and negotiating the acquisitions and divestiture of the various investment holdings. He is strategic in his approach, providing valuable counsel to the various management teams in solving business challenges to drive company value, while taking into consideration complex tax issues and opportunities. Scott is an investor in a number of private companies and serves as a board member for many of those companies.

Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and an MBA from Drake University. He is a certified public accountant, passing the CPA exam with high distinction.

Prior to 2006, Scott served as a director with RSM McGladrey, Inc, a national certified public accounting firm. He has an extensive background in accounting, audit, tax management, corporate financial analysis and accepted business valuation techniques. In addition to his tenure in public accounting, Scott worked in finance for the world leader in turbomachinery optimization, serving an international market in oil and gas and other industries.

Scott has served on the boards of several nonprofits including leading the finance committee of the Blank Park Zoo and the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce. Professionally, he is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.

 

 

DAVID KLEIN—CHIEF ENGINEER 

David Klein has spent over 20 years in the Electrical control industry for the agriculture, appliance, commercial, Industrial, Automotive, personal transportation, Watercraft, Railway and Construction Markets. He has worked in plant Engineering, Plant Operations, Product Engineering, Application Engineering, Engineering Management and as a National Account Manager in a technical sales role throughout his career.

As Omega's chief engineer, David developed the first modular electrical control system for the mobile mixer market in 2012. He continues to advance and improve Omega's electrical and monitoring system, incorporating mobile "Can-Bus" display systems as well as forging material advancements in the wiring to improve durability. David is also overseeing work with hydraulic systems development and incorporating new technologies as they align with Omega’s core design direction.

Early in his career, David worked with companies such as Detroit Diesel Corporation and Electro-Motive Diesel to develop electrical control systems. He also worked with equipment/component manufacturers such as Vermeer, Allison Transmission, GM Powertrain, Master Craft, Indmar Marine and Marine Power on engine electrical systems.  As part of this experience, David championed many product startups and transfers through United States- and Mexico-based assembly plants including one main engine line electrical assembly for DDC. David managed customer relationships ranging in size from $20,000 annually to more than $5 million.

David grew up on a farm and continues to live in rural Iowa. He volunteers his time as president of the Recreation Board in Murray, Iowa, and chairman of the South Central Youth League, which covers softball and baseball for a seven-city area. David’s upbringing, education through Iowa State University and vast background in multiple markets add value to the development and leadership of Omega Concrete Mixers.
